Contemporary Restaurant Service week two and three

Restaurant's terrace in the evening
How possible to meet people from Toronto at the school?

One more week where I missed the post.

It was our second week of the contemporary restaurant service. There was a change how we work. We are not doing the whole cycle for a table. Instead we were divided for front servers and back servers. The front server is responsible for sales to the table, for taking order, communicating with the chef if there are any questions. The back server is a helper and supposes to serve water, bread, remove dirty plates, mark the table for the next course, and so on. Also there were different workload starting that week. The front server served four tables and the back server provided support for two front servers. These positions are not permanent,
we rotate every day.

Last week I suppose to be a back server once, on Thursday. However, we had full house booked and also we had extra student workers, so I volunteered to be a front server for that day. Even better, I worked outside on the terrace. That was probably my favorite part. I really love to be outside. Even though there are five tables and not four, but there are also assigned back server for the terrace only. After 6 p.m. the temperature drops and outside is just perfect. Also there are not much attention from the instructor. Of course if you need him, he will help. Otherwise he might check a couple times during the night and that is it. On Saturday I also worked outside.

The guests are very curious, they ask many questions starting with 'where are you from'. It's nice to be able to confuse them. My standard answer is from Canada and people confused, since my accent is definitely not Canadian. Also there are many questions about the school program, what we are going to do after graduation.

Last week I had a Russian couple. Unfortunately they were quite boring, all conversation was about money and earning extra money. I had a couple from Toronto, they were very nice and only at the end when they handled me a credit card issued by Canadian bank, I asked if they were from Canada. Indeed, they were from the suburbs of Toronto.

In general it was a good week. I escaped to be a back server. Not that I do not want to be a back server, it's more about front servers. Out of four people two are extremely difficult to work with and chances to get two good people are very slim. Also I worked outside for two days and these days were great - people love to sit outside and all tables were occupied. And everything we are doing now is more familiar...

Decided to add a bit for the week three. That week was a last week for the block and quite unremarkable. Yes, we were busy, but other than that... On Saturday we had our final exam and another day of busy service. The patio (my favorite place to work outside) was closed for the whole week. One day we had no support stuff, another day there was wind outside. So the whole week we were working inside. Also it was a short week, as we were off on Tuesday. During the week I met a couple from Toronto and another Russian couple. People are nice at this restaurant, especially when they see students doing everything...
