Day nine

Truth about bananas - are  they ripe?

Today is a strange day. It's Monday, but we have no classes. So not sure if I should could this day or not. Probably it doesn't matter, taking into consideration it's still the first month and there are twenty more to go:-)

So, this is day for homework and special projects (we are going to have them in future). In the morning drove from San Francisco to St Helena. In the city traffic was a bit heavy, outside SF it was fine, I made my trip in 1h 35 m, which is quite good.

So here is truth about bananas
left to ripe in the plastic bag with apples hidden in dark place. They were the same ripeness as bananas left in the bowl on the table. I suspect that the reason is the cat - he was sneaking to this drawer many times during weekend. This small bastard was disturbing microclimate there and we did not get expected result. It sounds easy but the cat of course in not guilty. He is guilty but in some other sins. I believe banana did receive ethylen gas from apples because apples were covered with nice layer of wax to preserve them. Therefore they were not able to emit this magical gas. This experiment has to be repeated again, because we have no result.

After lunch we went to Beringer winery - the closest to our school. We wanted to check what they have. It was not easy to persuade them to give us free tasting as future professionals. But we were consistant and at the end we got it. The have big wine list. Some of their wines are not available in the retail stores you can but it only on site. I liked Cabernet Sauvignon reserva 2007 it has great taste and aroma as well as color. Fortified wine which is 20 years old I did not like. That wine is too sweet and it's difficult to classify it - not ice wine not port, something in between. This is how I taste it. For now this is not professional opinion, as we will have our vine course only next year.

Tomorrow is big day. We are in the kitchen and we suppose to cook our first dish. Will update tomorrow.
